The Official Drink of Austin is the city’s premier craft cocktail event, raising funds for culinary grants while challenging the best local bar teams to a friendly competition to create the essential Austin cocktail.

Meet your 2019 Official Drink of Austin

Peaches & Bees from Team Apis

The bar team from Apis won the spirited competition at the Official Drink of Austin event with the “Peaches & Bees,” featuring Treaty Oak Red Handed Bourbon, house-made Fredericksburg peach nectar, lemon, lime, & yuzu juice, Chateau d’Arton Creme de Peche, honey syrup, egg white, and a pickled peach garnish.

½ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz blend of fresh lime juice and yuzu juice (5:1 ratio)
½ oz honey syrup (Chelsea uses honey from Apis’ onsite beehives)
¼ oz D’Arton creme de peche
1 oz house made peach nectar
2 oz Treaty Oak Red Handed bourbon
1 egg white

Dry shake all ingredients to emulsify
Add ice and shake again
Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube
Garnish with a pickled peach slice

How we select The Official Drink of Austin

We send out a call to compete to the best local bars in Austin – and like bartending itself, the contest is a team event. Each participating bar team creates a drink utilizing spirits and flavor combinations best suited to be crowned the Official Drink of Austin. From all entries, six finalist bars are selected to compete live at the main event, where they set up bars that represent their establishments. Cocktails are judged in two preliminary rounds by a judging panel of all-star members of the beverage community.
